Have to run the water a while before you start drinking

You have to dispense and throw out quite a few cups of water before you start drinking it because you can taste the chemicals or whatever it is that cleanses the water. If you don’t do that, you’ll get a strong chemical taste and you can kind of see the chemical swirls(?) in the water. After you do that the water tastes fine and no more excessive chemicals

ANSI/NSF 42 compliance does not perform to the same level as ANSI/NSF 53. So while I went through three of these and am now looking to re-order, I discovered that other types can be both 42 and 53 compliant, meaning they also filters heavy metals, whereas these Water Sentinels are not certified to do so. However, as you will see in one of the replies to this, the manufacturer claims it is built to the 53 standard but is in an extended process of certification. So while the LG part costs more, you are getting a product that has been certified to perform better. I will opt for the LG for now, since one can never know what metals, benzene, and other contaminants may be in your local water supply, but you may make your own decision as to whether the manufacturer can be taken at their word. You can search google for the difference in standards, but here is a link: http://www.wqpmag.com/not-all-filters-are-created-or-tested-equal, where it explains 42 aims for taste and odor ONLY, and 53 aims for health-related claims. As for how these actually make the water taste, I had no issues at all with that, and they worked properly for six months each, so for that reason along I might recommend them to those on a tight budget. I would guess that people with softer water can expect more longevity from these than those with hard water.

Fantastic replacement

I purchased this instead of the LG filter as the savings were simply too good to pass up - and I'm glad I did. There's no difference in taste but the savings are huge in comparison to the original. UPDATE: 10/23 - I had to lower a star because one of the filters lasted less than 2 months before the water slowed to a trickle, which is the shortest lasting so far as they normally last around 6 months or so. I hope it's an anomaly as I still have a couple more filters in stock - I purchased another brand and am trying out those now - I'll see how they compare.

A bargain compared to LG or Kenmore branded filters

Got these filters just a couple weeks ago for our Kenmore Elite refrigerator. I was looking for an economical replacement since the LG or Kenmore branded filters are at least twice as much as these (if not more). They had received good reviews so I decided to try 'em out. A couple weeks later, so far so good. My wife and 5 year old said there was a slightly different taste for the first day or so using the filter—I didn't notice a difference. However, they say there is no more taste and all is good. Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase and would recommend to anyone not wanting to drop $60–$80 for ONE filter of LG or Kenmore.

Great Replacement at a Great Price

I've purchased these replacement filters for a while now on Amazon and I never have a problem with them. They have all worked as well as the manufactured filter I originally spent nearly $60 on for one! Ever since that first mistake I have purchased my replacement filters on Amazon at a much better value than the store issued brands. The only thing is I can't always find the same brand I have bought before and so this is my first time getting the Water Sentinel. I read the reviews and decided to try them. The 3-pack was a phenomenal price equaling the 1 I've purchased at the store and these work great. I haven't had any problems. They were packaged well and makes my filtered water taste great.

Newbie Filter Replacers Troubleshooting Tips

Instructions were confusing for first time install. Had to go online to find out proper way to replace the filter which wasn't as intuitive as you'd expect. Troubleshooting tips: - Make sure LG refrigerator Lock light is off (open door and push button for 3 seconds) - Remove the top shelf of the refrigerator so that the swinging door of the filter housing can fully extend to the bottom before removing the cartridge (if you simply pull without removing the shelf and fully bringing down the plastic housing, you can break the connector) - Water runs blue so keep running it in periodic cycles until it runs clear, if you continuously run the water dispenser you can cause damage to the refrigerator connection line due to the sporadic initial pressure of the replacement filter

Arrived VERY quickly and received 3 filters for less than the cost of 1 locally and never had to leave the house. Factoring in my time and the cost of gas these days the savings keep increasing. The fit and quality are equal to the original factory installed when new.

I found that this filter was excellent and the price for three was incredible. I would rate this filter 5/5. It lasted at least 6 months for a household of two people. Second time ordered this product; first time bought 2 in package and this time 3 in a pack.
