Smartpool WWS421P Sunheater Solar Pool Heater

Just got this running on our 24 Ft round above ground pool. The water went from 70 degrees to 90 degrees in 5 days!! We are also using a solar cover on the top of the pool. The water coming out of the heater didn't seem very warm and we were a little skeptical about how well it would work at first. But after 5 days, we were really surprised how much at warmed our pool. We built a mounting rack, and plumbed them about 60 feet from the pool with 1 1/2" PVC. We plumbed it a little different than the instructions. Used a T fitting on the water line between the filter and the return line, and installed a valve to control input flow to the heater. Then had the return line from the heater with it's own return line back to the pool. We just plumbed PVC pipe to go over the top rail and it returned heated water to the pool under the deck that hangs over one side of the pool. This way we can turn off flow to the heater on cold days when the filter needs to be running. They will need to be mounted to something!! They are 2 feet by 20 feet of plastic that comes in a roll. The picture shows them mounted to a rack with a mounting kit (neither are included) Pretty flimsy out of the box. But with several trips to home depot, we made our own rack and mounting kit. And lots of extra plumbing supplies were needed for out setup. So there will be additional cost to get this setup and running. But I am very happy with the performance of it now that we got it going. But overall, I am very pleased with the performance of this Solar Pool Heater

Actually Works!

Imagine my surprise when I finally hooked this up and it REALLY works! It doesn't help that this summer in the Northeast has been mostly cloudy and rainy, as this product needs direct sunlight for 4-5 days to actually warm the water, but it does. Now, it's not going to be like bathwater, but it WILL warm the water to where it's not ice cold. We have 1 package (2- 2'x20' panels) I can only assume that next year, if I hook up 2 more of the panels it will be even warmer, but this product does a satisfactory job so far. We also have a solar pool cover that helps keep the warmth in.

You need at least a 1 Horse Power pump for this thing!!!!

Ok so I have cleared up a big mystery for myself with this thing. The pump that came with the Intex pool 12-24 is great for the pool but at .24 HP it is far to small to push the water through this passive solar setup. So, after spending a fair amount of money on plumbing and then buffer pipe so as not to restrict flow I called the very nice person at their tech number and she told me you need at least a 1HP pump in order to do anything close to 30' away and one story up. As far as I can tell you need it even if the system is only 8' away like mine. Oh well live and learn. Now to return. And probably look into an electric heater? Bummer but then it will work at night too!

Poorly designed

It does not come with the hoses to install with the pump All the caps and fittings leak no matter if you use plumbers tape or not still leaks. Poorly designed on that part.

Didn’t include necessary hoses.

It was impossible to mount up against the side of my round pool so had to be laid flat on the ground. No hoses at all were included to hook to pool and pump.

Customer service

Purchased and installed last spring. Multiple leaks out of the heating tube. Contacted customer service and sent all the required information including pictures and never heard from them again. So now I have a heater that only half of the tube are working.

It's cheap

Doesn't come with any mounting hardware. I also can't find for sale anywhere the part number in the pictures. I fabricated a similar part to what they had shown. Also came with one pinhole leak that I fixed with JB weld. Also the fittings take WAY more telfon tape than they should. It's as if they are not made to spec for that pipe fitting size....

It’s not bad

Fairly easy to install parts came stripped had an issue with leaking then not leaking then leaking missed return day by a few days. So will be disconnecting and trying to sell to get some of our money back. Probably our fault for not looking for new parts. ????????‍♀️

Excelente calentador de alberca

Le doy 10 estrellas magnífico producto. Colienta hasta 2000 a 2500 litros de agua. Para una alberca de 3 x 2 mts de 70 cm. Sube la temperatura entre 10 a 15 grados en días de sol y de 8 a 12 en nublados. Fácil de instalar, usar y funcional. Se tiene que comprar algunos empaques para instalarla , la coloque en la azotea de mi casa.

Missing white end caps

It says in the manual that it comes with 4 white end caps, but when I opened the package it only came with 2 white end caps. (Where are the other 2 white end caps?)
