higher seat, less knee bend
My husband came home from the hospital two days after knee replacement surgery. He was able to walk with a walker, and the pain was tolerable. THEN...he had to go to the bathroom. It hurt him SO BADLY to sit down that it took him 30 minutes to muster the strength to stand up. I immediately ran to my computer and started researching elevated toilet seats. Ray is a large man so he had some specific requests. He wanted something that had side handles and preferred handles that had legs down to the ground. He NEEDED an extra wide space in which to sit. This Tall-Ette seat was just the key. He had installed a 2" taller toilet just 4 months earlier...so, we did have to place some pieces of wood underneath the legs on the floor to ensure stability since they did not quite reach the ground without them. The actual opening could be a little bit larger for him as he still has difficulty urinating with this seat while sitting, but this has been a lifesaver for him. He's now 5 weeks past surgery--but will be having the OTHER knee replaced in another 4 weeks...so, we will be using this seat for another two to three months at least. Finally, I must add that being an Amazon Prime customer is FANTASTIC. I could not find this seat (or anything comparable) in any stores locally, and I only had to pay $3.99 for NEXT DAY shipping with Amazon Prime. I ordered it at 3 pm (pacific time) on Wednesday....and we had it before noon on Thursday. THANK YOU AMAZON!!

Do your research before buying!
I just rec'd this and attempted installation. This definitely was not made to fit my Kohler Cimmaron elevated toilet. This must be designed for older model toilets that are of normal height only. First, my toilet does not have an opening between the seat and the toilet bowl -- there is a plastic plate there -- so the bracket for installation cannot slip in between the toilet seat and the bowl. So, we had to remove the bracket (against the recommendation of the installation instructions). Then, as MANY reviews on the internet state...the legs wobble and do not sit flush on the floor -- especially if you are trying to install it on an ADA height toilet (16 inches or greater). So, we removed one of the padded cushions on each arm which allowed the legs to be extended to the floor -- it barely sits on the floor now. There is quite a bit of the seat that fits into the toilet bowl, so it should not come up when rising off the seat to get up after use. BUT, my elderly, overweight mother has not used it yet, so we will see. BUYER BEWARE: this will NOT fit an elevated toilet and do your research on the internet before purchase -- the internet reviews are not as good as the ones on Amazon. Also, the width between the hand rails is 19 3/4 inches -- so if the person is wider than that, it will be too small. THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE RETURNED, so please make sure it will work for you before purchasing!!

STURDY and STRONG. 6'1 220 lb geriatric pt has used daily for 3 years, NO PROBLEMS!
Got this for a tall, overweight geriatric relative who has trouble standing up from low chairs/toilet seats. Had to buy this expensive one because other lighter, cheaper models had slipped off of the toilet bowl. (causing dangerous falls) (don't buy a model that uses a plastic screw to clip to the front of the bowl -- if force is applied laterally or unevenly while standing those models can slide off.) Basically, this thing bolts onto the toilet bowl like a gigantic toilet seat, (they call it "Bolt-Down Lock-In-Ell III" ) using the porcelin bolt-holes the toilet seat cover used to attach through. So unless your toilet bowl comes unbolted from the floor, it isn't going to fall off the toilet. NOTE: I did add a pair of rubber gaskets and steel washers when I installed those bolts, because i didn't think that the included plastic nuts were enough. So budget to maybe spend another $2 at the hardware store. Rock solid ever since. Caveats: One downside of being bolted to the toilet is that it is harder to clean than the other models, But the benefit of greatly improved stability far outweighs that downside.

Having a total knee replacement is tough enough all by ...
Having a total knee replacement is tough enough all by itself, having it done and being morbidly obese (498lbs) is extremely problematic. Being rated for up to 600lbs gave me confidence in it's ability to hold up under the pressure, which it has. My only complaint and the only reason it didn't get a full five stars is the width of the handle holes, which are not NEARLY wide enough for any person of size. I was forced to purchased some lumber and devise my own handles. There must be some way to engineer wider handle settings. Short of that, the product is well designed and constructed. $$$ did NOT go down the drain with this purchase!

This riser is the tallest one offered in this style. I recommend this style over the type that screws to the toilet because this style is safer since it has four legs extending to the floor. I use it on an elevated oval toilet and it works great. Easy to clean surface. I deducted a point because the handles on each side should be taller for disabled people with trunkal weakness or vertigo. The current arm height will not stop someone from falling off the side when reaching for toilet paper, for example.

A quick fix, but it works.
Waffling on whether to give four stars or five. Pros: fits over a regular toilet, makes it easier to sit on than the standard toilet when mobility is an issue. Very heavy duty, well made, very sturdy, I feel confident that the arms will bear my weight getting on and off. Con: it's hard to spread one's legs for sanitation. But after thinking about it long and hard, I don't see how it could be designed any other way. Drop arms would not be as safe. Anyway, I have two, one at home in the powder room, one at work since they don't have a bathroom fitted out for handicapped people. In the master bathroom, a regular tall toilet and grab bars, which I prefer. For me, this is a quick fix, but worth five stars.

Not too bad
The legs are flimsy but the elevated seat is awesome. Love the fact that you can install it onto your toilet without the rails and that is what we did. Made a huge difference for the arthritic folks in my house. Would recommend.
