The cameras can not be turned off and on.

The cameras are well built and work as advertised. The only issue that kept me from giving it five stars is the ability to turn the cameras off when desired. The base station has three modes - off, home, and away. The notifications work great and recordings of video. But there is no way, at present, to turn the cameras off. There are times when you are working on the patio, etc. and this causes the cameras to record and notify continuously. It would be nice to be able to turn off the cameras when you wish to. A small second issue is the camera install process. When adding cameras to your system, be sure to charge the battery before you start the process and be prepared to go through the entire install process. If you stop and try to return to the installation at a later time, you will have to delete the camera and start over. But we are pleased with the system and plan to add additional cameras.

Its a very purpose driven system!

The 3rd gen system is the 6th sysyem Ive used to include the Simplisafe 1st gen system. I have tried 4 stand alone video systems as well. By far the gen 3 system is the best in installation, all in one and quality. Some of the other products Ive used have as good picture quality or individual functionality but were difficult to install, did not work together (multiple apps) and were as expensive individually as a total Simplisafe system. I did like the gen 1 system but I used other video with it. Setup of the gen 3 uses an app which takes you step by step, very easy to use. Theres tons of features and products to customize your system. The cameras have great picture quality. The main keypad is perfect especially compared to previous products I ve used. The number buttons are large and easy to push. It seems overall alot of thought was put into this system, it improved on a good gen 1 system and its got what you need and nothing you dont want.

Shameful "error code" really a scam

I used the SimpliSafe App on an iPhone to setup my new system because keypad setup process was slow and awkward. One of the menu options is "Location Profile" which includes Property Name, Address, Add Primary Contact, and more. I set up Property Name and hit Save, no problem. Then I set up Address and hit Save -- the result was an error message "Device Connection Problem". After checking the usual suspects and finding no cause, I called the support number. The customer support person set the Address for me remotely, when I asked why I couldn't set it, she said it must a glitch with the app. I tried changing a different field and it failed as well with the same error message. I pressed the issue and was told that I have to subscribe to one of their services before I can set those fields. There is nothing on the screen that indicates this area is for service subscribers only -- just an error message about device connections. There are lots of ways for the company to deal with this, using misleading error messages should not be one of them. On the positive side, the system seems to work well but I haven't had it for long. Aside from the time I wasted with false error messages, the setup was ok --- just don't try to use the keypad unless you like a very awkward way to enter names and numbers. Attaching the devices to walls was not easy since the adhesive tape doesn't hold very well (other's have warned about this) so I used screws too. The screws do work but they are tiny and the Philips heads are too soft and way too easy to strip so use a screw driver with an exact fit. The voice prompt is nice except when you are setting up a sensor in another room where you can't hear the voice prompt. Overall, it is a good system with some really poorly done details and horrible UI design of the app and keypad.

Great system backed up by outstanding service...I've been using their products and interacting with their support team for years now. No better system for the money anywhere.

Very Unreliable Cameras

We have a whole house Simplisafe system. The outdoor and doorbell cameras (we have several) are not reliable. Night vision settings keep changing on their own. Misses way too much motion activity to be considered a reliable security video recording system. Does not continue to record after the approx 1 min default even if the activity continues beyond that. If you have someone casing your property or another type of notable event, it'll only record 1 min of it and no more. That's if it even catches the incident in the first place! All our cameras are at the most sensitve settings as well. Not dependable!

I have been waiting for the outdoor cameras to come in stock. I found them offered in this kit. This was a great deal. I already have the system I was just looking to add more cameras.

Great DIY security system

Easy to install, even outdoor cameras. Simple instructions for each device installing and then attaching (Wi-Fi) to the home base unit. Plan to add a few more sensors in the future. Not a substitute for a good, professional system. But I needed something in a hurry and for a good price. This unit is great.
