Good for the price

I bought two of these after reading other reviews concerning how these don't have the nasty plastic backing. And they don't. They don't have the awful plastic smell when they arrive and fit the crib mattress very well. They've been washed a handful of times and while they seem to stand up to the washings/don't fall apart by any means, I do feel that the padding has become matted. As a caveat, I have to wash all bedding in hot hot water to kill dust mites, but then I only pop them in the dryer for about 10 minutes before air drying. I will continue to use the two I have, but I will probably try another brand when I need to replace them just to see if I can get a fluffier padding. One final caveat: these are for my 20mos son. So I'm not worried about suffocating him with thick padding. And the mattress we have is plastic covered foam (though green guard certified so the plastic does not release harmful chemicals) so i don't need waterproofing on top of waterproofing. My son has definitely stopped waking up sweaty once I switched to these and he was no longer sleeping on plastic on top of plastic. overall, I would recommend these for not having plastic and standing up to washing for the price, but might suggest comparing with other brands as well.

Really makes a difference from baby mattress with no topper to one with a topper- PLUSH

My newborn slept just with a sheet and a mattress, well kinda sorta. She had a bassinet but once I felt the time was right to switch her, for a few weeks she had no "comforter" and I didn't feel that was right. So I bought two, this one and the same brand except not 100% cotton to see which I like better. Although pretty much the same, they smelt different and felt different. Having allergies my self along with my daughter, I thought the 100% cotton would be a better fit for my daughter.

Not really natural, but it'll do

I got this knowing that it wasn't 'natural' as in ORGANIC. You have to spend quite a bit more for good quality natural mattresses and covers. It's bleached cotton which is highly fumigated and full of chemicals before it's even harvested, so I wasn't going into this being fooled by the word NATURAL on the package like a lot of people seem to be. It's quite pillowy, washed up fine. Fits my 5"+ mattress just fine. Has wide stretchy elastic so even if the top were to shrink a bit the elastic would still reach all the way down the sides of the mattress I'm sure. As far as being waterproof I can't quite say, but it would soak up leaks no problem since it is so fluffy (not dangerously fluffy, that would be bad for babies). Over all I'm happy with it.

Great quality & fit

These Mattress pads are just great for babies cribs and toddler beds. They just add a layer of cushion that is comfortable and keeps their skin away from the plastic on the mattresses.

Great mattress pad with no vinyl backing

I searched far and wide for a crib mattress pad that doesn't have a vinyl backing. I have a waterproof naturpedic mattress so i don't necesarily need a waterproof pad. This one is really soft and thick so I think it would do a good job of absorbing any spills anyways. Have not used this yet since the little one hasn't yet arrived but I did wash it, it held up but i do notice a small tear in one of the seams on the side. That's why i gave it 4 starts instead of 5. But it's still worth it to me to not have the vinyl and plastic backing even if I have to replace it eventually. It did not shrink in the dryer and fits the mattress pretty well..I will probably order another soon

Adds just enough comfort

My toddler had been sleeping in our bed nearly since birth, and though excited for his own bed, he didn't sleep as soundly and seemed uncomfortable. After a lot of searching and reading many reviews, I settled on this mattress pad. It has made a world of difference! It adds just enough padding to make a hard crib/toddler mattress a bit more comfortable, but not so much that I feel it poses any risk of suffocation (I should add that my son is 2.5, so not a baby by any means). He now sleeps through the night completely where as before he was waking several times each night.

Wash a WHITE mattress pad in COLD water only and AIR DRY it only? Shame on Sealy!!

Finding a mattress pad that was cotton through and through thrilled me. When I opened it, I was pleased - until I headed to the washing machine with it. Fortunately, I read the care instructions. After all the mattress pads I've owned over the years, reading them was really just a "formality". To say I was shocked to read that it has to be washed in cold water only and AIR DRIED, is an understatement. It's WHITE. Who washes whites in cold water? It's BEDDING. Who washes their sheets and bedding in cold water? Maybe I'm too "old school", but I grew up being taught that whites were washed in hot water and sheets (which were always 100% cotton back then) were washed in hot water. Now, I HAVE mellowed down to WARM water for both. My state of the art Whirlpool washer must be old school also, because when I set it on Sheets, it sets itself to warm wash, cold rinse. If I set it on Bulky Items, which is how bed pads could be classified, it sets itself on warm wash/ cold rinse. And if I set it on Whites, it sets itself to HOT wash, cold rinse. I had to override the machine to set it on Cold/Cold. I hung the mattress pad on the line to dry, which I didn't mind. I prefer to line dry sheets and towels because they smell incredibly fresh. I measured the pad before I started as it looked short to me. No - it was in fact 52" long. After washing, my husband and I stretched it out and measured it - 501/2" long. Cold water wash. Line dried. Unhappy customer. Am I able to stretch it and get it to stay on the mattress? Yes. Will I continue using it? Yes, if it doesn't shrink any further next wash. But I am very unhappy at ANY manufacturer who would make bedding - and white bedding at that - that has to be washed in cold water. These care instructions should be in the posted description, instead of just saying "Machine Washable and Dryer Friendly". It should say "Machine Washable Cold Only, Air Dry" or "Dryer Friendly on Air Dry only". I normally wash the mattress pad with the sheets. Can't do that with THIS pad because I wash sheets in warm water. I can't wash it with my whites. Light colors I wash in warm - as chosen by my Whirlpool. The only load I wash in cold water is the DARK colors. But if I wash wash a white mattress pad with dark colors, it will come out dingy looking. So a little crib mattress pad, which will get washed OFTEN, has to be washed in a LARGE capacity washing machine in a load by itself. (And dried by itself for folks who will use the dryer). SHAME ON SEALY. (-: I was planning to order another one to have two on hand for the grand baby I will be babysitting, and I was going to recommend it to my daughter, who is setting up the nursery now. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a mattress pad that has to be washed in cold water, air only dried and it still shrinks.

Disappointed. Plastic package of the pad came crushed and dirty and pad was bundled up in package. Makes one wonder if the product was previously opened and sent back.
