Expensive Features in an Economical Package

The round punch shields I've used in my 3+ per week Krav Maga and boxing classes were all Title Classics which had uncomfortable handles and a stitched on logo on one side that really eats up hands and gloves, making only one side really usable. Needless to say, I was looking for an upgrade when purchasing for myself. The Contender has a lot of features of much more expensive models. One feature that wasn't mentioned in the item description but was a pleasant surprise was the "zero impact target zone" on the side of the pad with the stars. This is a feature found on the $80 Title Zero Impact Wheel Shield which says that the "shield delivers a center target zone on one side that absorbs most of the shock so the trainer, and athlete, receive less stress on impact. Exclusive dual sided target – one side is fully padded for regular punch shield training, while the opposite side has Zero Impact center target zone – offers trainers advanced multi-faceted training options . . . We sincerely recommend this professional, twin sided, ultra-light weight, heavy duty round wheel shied for heavy hitters, elite athletes and trainers seeking a more impact-free workout." So, no, it's not "soft" or just for "younger athletes and moms." It's for fighters who want to train smarter. I gave it a test run on both sides of the pad, and the zero impact zone really does reduce the stress on your joints, allowing you to get in more reps with less wear and tear. Between the zero impact zone, the padded handles, and the smooth pad surface on both sides, this $36 Contender shield is almost indistinguishable from the $80 Title Zero Impact Wheel Shield. I'll update this review if it doesn't hold up in terms of longevity, but the stitching seems good. Well worth the money.

Good pad for the price

This is my first time trying out contender product. First impression was great product for a great price range. Comfortable grips and design. After 5 hrs of training with it. The stiching is unraveling and lace in the bottom are loosening. All in all you get what you pay for. It's a good product for home use but not commercial. Always remember keep your hands up.

boxing coach said its perfect

Never used a punch shield before. my boxing coach asked me to purchase one. I chose this one. My coach said it was perfect. He uses this quite alot with me. I also enjoy using it. There may be more expensive ones out there, but for the money this is the best.

Bang for your buck

Punch shield works great. I hold mitts for some guys that have a lot of power. I use the shield to train power body shots and hooks. The shield absorbs the punches well even when drilling hard jab cross combinations and the pad is resting on my chest.
