Retrofit Broan Bathroom Fan

Just completed installation of this retrofit fan. Older fan was sounding like it was going out (30 + years old). Installation including removal of the older fan took about 5 - 6 hours, including modifying the wood blocking to hang the fan (older fan was much larger). The new fan cover was too small, so ended up using the older cover. Fan noise is better than old fan and suction seems to be pretty good. Time will tell when we have guests to use it in the guest room bathroom. Guest bathroom is about 70 sq. ft. but needs a good fan to remove steam from shower. I have several other Braun bathroom fans and they last a long time and give good service. Wish the sound level was less, thus the 4 stars.

If you have trouble installing black fan box

Heads Up. When pushing the "fan" part into the box you just installed in the ceiling, you may have to push with some force. I found that the black plastic "tabs" on the fan housing may need to kind of pushing tabs inward with good pressure. Then you will feel it snap into place. I thought something was wrong but did not realize that you gotta push on the tabs.

Louder than I had thought it would be.

The specs say 2.0 sones, I'd wager its much louder. The motor makes a rattling sound. I thought it was the metal housing around the unit but I ran the fan by itself and it is the motor which make the noise.

One Great Bathroom Ventilation Fan

A very high quality bathroom ventilation fan for the price. This fan moves a lot of air (80 cfm) without making a lot of noise. It is not silent, but I would classify the sound it makes as "white noise". There is no motor noise at all. Just the sound of air being moved by the rotating blades. Somewhat bigger than my old Broan fan, I had to cut a bigger hole in the ceiling to make it fit. You must vent this fan to the exterior of your house via a 4" circular duct. Don't dump all the hot and humid air that this fan will move into your attic. The result will be moldy spots on your ceiling.

Great Product for the money .

Unit is made very well . It was louder than I expected for being 2 sones . More in a resonable price range than the box stores . The only thing that could be improved on is the spring clips that hold it up to ceiling .

Really quiet

REALLY QUIET! I wasn’t sure if it was on the first time I flipped the switch. There are no secrets of what goes on in that room. The vent was larger than the old fan I was replacing. Be prepared that you may need to replace the duct.

Way too loud, not quite at all

Loud. This unit cannot adjust fan speed. It is just too loud. Not quite at all. The only thing I like was you can install from the room. Did all that and turn on and loud, noisy. Will replace but not now because it was a bitch. Don’t want to go thru that again.
