Briggs & Stratton 590781 Magneto Armature

my old Craftsman with a 19.5 hp Briggs & Stratton 42 inch mower (model 917 259 560) was surging, slight misfire (popping), and occasional backfire,... adjusted carb, changed the carb, changed spark plugs, that didn't do it, but this replacement coil did! runs like new, should have done this years ago. make sure to space this part from your rotating engine (watch you tube/ use a business card to space it), was pretty easy install, and like mentioned, make sure "this side up" is up... it's labeled

Very easy fix

You will need a feeler guage to set the magneto at the proper distance from the flywheel, but other than that and a simple socket set - this was a 10 minutes fix. Problem started when the mower just died,l and there was no spark, it's is back to starting and running without problems.

Worked but packaging/source seems suspicious

I replaced the coils because I read reports that the resistance it too high causing my tractor not to start/no spark when starting hot. Interesting, this coil looks nothing like the coil it replaced. B&S box said made in Milwaukee, WI, USA. It was taped shut. Definitely paid more for something advertised as B&S manufactured genuine replacement part. Sticker on side identifying item said made in CN. Install was easy enough and the tractor started. Won't know until the weekend if it will start hot. As an update, this coil failed prematurely…short occurred again stopped working when hot. Next replacement worked hot but one of leads didn’t fire so didn’t have HP to mow. Third is working, starts hot and fires strong! I set gap tight w feeler gauge but can’t find a standard.

It was an exact replacement part.

Magneto was bad, replaced the magneto and works great.

The items received had no power.

I disliked the fact that everyone of these magnetos did not work because when they arrived they were all “dead” no power.

CHEAP CHINA SWAP OPEN BOX!!!

Was disappointed to see it was a swapped original for China coil!!! Not Briggs Stratton original equipment!!! Just the box which was distressed was original!!! I'm pissed!!!
