Not Quite Perfect
I love olive wood, had been hankering after this bit of culinary frivolity for a long time, and finally decided to bite the bullet. It's a scoop and hence doesn't require a lengthy product review but I thought I'd share my impressions with prospective buyers. I've seen reviews for other Bérard scoops that complain of too-short length. Rest assured that such isn't the case with item #90677--it's described as being 7" in length and is actually just shy of 7 ½", which assures ease of use. And the business end is fairly capacious so no need to fear having to dip into your dry commodity of choice frequently if you're not dealing with huge amounts. It really is practical and beautiful. I dinged a star because I don't think the scoop was finished as well as it could have been. The inner edge was rather rough and the interior isn't entirely smooth. The edge was remedied by the gentle use of the fine side of an emory board but nothing can be done with the interior. This isn't the first time I've experienced this with a Bérard scoop--I have a tiny salt shovel I purchased at Sur la Table that's also carried here at Amazon and after sifting through quite a few, I settled on the one that I thought was finished best. This is disappointing because I have another very small olive wood salt scoop, also made in France, that in spite of being a no-name item is beautifully finished and glassy-smooth in spite of having a round bowl. It leads me to believe that Bérard is coasting on its reputation, especially since they now farm out at least some of their work to Tunisia. I highly recommend conditioning olive wood on at least a monthly basis. I use two John Boos products on all of my culinary wood--John Boos Mystery Oil Butcher Block Oil 16 oz andJohn Boos 5 Ounce Block Board Cream with Beeswax . I purchased both on Amazon and it bears mentioning that they might be more cost-effective if purchased in multiples. Regardless, a little of both goes a long way and for those who don't wish to spend the money, drug store mineral oil works just fine, just don't use any sort of food oil as they all go rancid eventually. Make sure, if you expose your wood (of any kind) to water, to dry it thoroughly (a paper towel is fine) and allow it to air dry at least 24 hours before applying any sort of conditioner. This scoop is described as a "rice scoop" (as opposed to their "flour scoop" that I haven't seen anywhere else) on a UK vendor's site and it certainly is appropriate for that, as well as for sugar, flour, and pulses. One thing that bears mentioning is that a lot of variation occurs in items of this kind and that buying online doesn't afford the purchaser the opportunity to choose--I'd have preferred a scoop with more figuring than the one I received although it's pretty, regardless. All in all, this particular scoop is both practical and beautiful and would make a great stocking stuffer. I'm happy I finally took the plunge.

nice and thin
Much thinner than one I bought elsewhere. This makes it much better for flipping pancakes, etc. Plenty sturdy and strong, too.

A very good price for Quality Olive Wood Utensils from Berard
Personally, my preference for Kitchen Utensils is Olive Wood from Berard, and a few other hardwoods that are available from others. My Olive Wood Utensils get a great amount of use and they in-fact last for years. Treat them right and they will treat you right. I have a tendency to be rough on them, but periodic care by oiling with food grade mineral oil is a very good idea!

Great product, highly recommended
I worked with these for a year before i wrote this review. I am used to french beechwood spatulas which i have used every day for the last 40 years, and i love. These olive wood spatulas look spectacular, but that is not a high concern for me. They are lovely and stiff, the beechwood has a little "give" in them which i am used to, so a couple of days of adjustment was needed for certain cooking styles. But now i would not go back. They cook great, they clean up great, and stay in top shape. The leading edge has not worm or frayed even after a year of daily heavy usage (i am heavy on these, not at all delicate - that is what the tongs or silicon tools are for) I oil them once a month or so and clean them soon after cooking. Great product, highly recommended

High quality, beautiful and functional!
This is high quality and great value for the price! I definitely shopped around so I was so pleased to see the quality far exceeded my expectations. Adds the perfect accent for my bathroom. I’m using it to dispense my bath products.
