Gets cold!

Seriously though, it does get cold. I do some outdoor summer sports where I normally bring a cooler with water and ice. I switched to using one of these instead of ice. It did not do as good as ice but was a lot simpler and easier, not to mention cheaper. I purchased a second one, and now it's almost as good as ice, but leaves more room in my cooler, is easier to work your hand around fishing out items from your cooler. No more sharp ice edges. Now I don't have to make a separate convenience store stop for ice, and I don't have a ton of water to dump out of the cooler after it's melted. To sum it up, it's cheaper, simpler, and more convenient than using ice. Also noteworthy, is more room in the cooler, and if you have to transport a larger cooler over a distance, it is a little lighter as well to consider. For me, it was nice not having to make a separate stop for ice too. Water that was placed in just the right area did freeze a bit, but after taking out of the cooler in the summertime heat, was easy to enjoy after mere moments.

FROZEN FANTASTIC !

So, I needed ice packs that would keep my homecooked BBQ frozen on a 2 day trip to Wisconsin this Summer to visit family and I had to keep my cooked and frozen ribs,6 slabs, and 2 big Boston pork butt bbq, frozen!! These are phenomenal and did not fail this Memphis girl and her BBQ ! GREAT product and all of it stayed FROZEN.

Buy the chillin Brew instead.

Tested for 6 months. This thing is terrible, I purchased the Alaskan, Chillin Brew, and Tundra at the same time to test how each would keep in my RTIC cooler. The Tundra is the worst of the 3 in every category you can think of. I'll start by saying don't even bother buying this if you dont have a deep freezer that you don't mind running all out. This thing is near impossible to get frozen and takes days even when it does. The freeze time alone makes this very impractical to use unless you plan on buying 5+ of them. As for how cold they keep drinks / food. Its pretty good, I've had it make drinks form ice and even semi froze a sandwich with it once. That said the duration at which it keep things cold is about 1/3 of what the Chilin Brew or Alaskan will do. After about 4-5 hours this thing is done and your stuff wont even be as cold as if you just had the Alaskan. The Alaskan can keep things "cool" for about 10-14 hours. The Chilin Brew will keep things "cold" for 8-10 and "cool" for 14-16. This varies with temps of where the cooler is stored. So with all that said the Chillin Brew can get you temps down nearly to what the Tundra can for 2-3x as longer and without the hassle of freezing for 3-5 days. The Tundra just is not practical to use and is only good for occasional short term cooling.

These are the best you can get, but…

They last a long time. If you use them in a quality ice chest, they will actually freeze the stuff you put in there! I’ve never seen anything like it before. Unfortunately, the third one I bought came almost halfway filled with liquid. Not happy with that, considering I bought the most expensive size. That’s why I only give it 2 stars. The past ones I’ve bought had no issues.

Perfect for Railroaders working the road

Ok so anyone that is a railroader working the road knows that you pack your road lunch box with 2-3 days worth of food and drinks. I personally pack frozen dinners. It is a struggle keeping your food cold and or frozen for an entire trip (24-36hrs generally) Some rooms have a mini fridge and some dont. I was looking for an ice pack that would keep my food cold for an entire trip. Bought the 5lb bad boy. Put the thing in the deep freeze for about a day. Froze solid. Put it in my above average lunch box, and with no ice or any other ice packs this thing kept my food frozen the first day and on the way back on the second day food and drinks stayed plenty cold and that was without refreezing the pack. Its bad A&$ But you have to freeze in a deep freeze to get solid. Nobody is paying me for this review. Its perfect for railroaders... SERIOUSLY

Better ice pack than the others

Keeps items in my cooler as cold as if I just took them out of the fridge. Buying a second one to see if I can get the temp lower. Claims to keep items frozen-- I don't know about that. Maybe with two of them and an expensive cooler??

It works

Science perfection. It freezes quickly and lasts for days. When we only need the cooler for the day we don’t bother with ice. When we needed it for several days placing the block on the bottom or side of cooler and then drinks/food then topped with ice it lasts several. Best cooling device for coolers ever.

Good Ice pack

Good ice pack, definitely keeps my food and drinks cold for my 8 hours at work. Downside to the ice pack is that, you have to give it about 36 hours to completely freeze and get solid. It definitely helps if you have a deep freezer or a regular freezer with the settings on high. If you don't have a deep freezer, you can still buy this and just wait for four days to get the pack to solid state. Your choice to make.

Seriously fantastic, keeps frozen things frozen!

Great product, works as intended. It does take a while to freeze because this product is designed to keep frozen things frozen and thus solidifies at a low temperature.

Not your average ice pack

Product stayed frozen much longer than expected. Travelled to Hawaii (combined flight time of 11.5 hrs) with a 4.5hr layover and additional 3 hours between travel time and time at the airport. Food was still frozen and the packs were as cold as they were when we took them out of the freezer.
