High Speed Steel, not the straightest

It's an HSS rod, for when you need one. As other reviewers have noted, they are not dead straight, so a star off for that. A few other questions and review were talking about using these for non-tool purposes, so *be aware* that these are hardened tool steel and you'll want to use a cuttoff wheel to cut them, not a saw. I needed a 6mm rod for an axle and this was the closest in size. I understood what the material was and how to cut them, so no stars off for that.

Works for what I needed them.

Good 6mm rod. Great tolerance on diameter but didn't fit the bearings that I bought them for. Had to sand them down in a few places.

HARD steel

I needed simple 6 mm posts that could have been made from mild steel. These are TOUGH tool steel--needed to use a grinding wheel to cut!!

They work for me

Just what I needed to support newly-turned pen blanks during finishing. They are not 100% straight, but that might have happened during shipping and it does not matter to me. If you need dead-straight rods, you might check into having them shipped in a box instead of a padded envelope.

Hefty rod

Was able to use this in one of my spindle designs and they are fairly thick and can hold some weight.
