Not as absorbent as my old Thirstystone

After several years, I finally needed to replace my Thirstystone coasters - which I love and worked better than any others I have had. True, here in the deep South, no coaster is going to keep your beverage from sticking every time. But the Thirstystone brand was by far the best I have ever tried. But the Tan sandstone pattern wasn't as interesting as some of the other options out there. So I was thrilled to find this pattern which matched my decor so well. But when it arrived, the package clearly states that it was not at all the same product. The packaging was different. This one was labeled as "Occasions Decorative Coasters," and then in smaller print lists Thirstystone as the manufacturer in much smaller print. Still I thought I would give it a try because they were so cute. Decorative is apparently the operative word here rather than absorbent. They are made of stone, but whatever printing/inking process is used to create the design has drastically reduced the rough, sandstone-like texture that made my previous set work so well at absorbing excess moisture. On my first use, they worked for about fifteen minutes, before they could absorb no more and the condensation caused the glass to stick and it came crashing to the floor. While it is still better than most, this set wasn't anywhere near as good as the Tan set from Thirstystone at absorbing condensation. (So glad I ordered a set of the boring tan ones too, which arrived looking just like my old set and worked just as well!) I wish I could say that I was satisfied by this new, pretty set, but they just didn't do the job as well as their other product. I was disappointed.

Spilled glue

Received broken

Obviously not durable, one of the coaster tiles was broken upon receipt.

Low quality

These are very low quality. They are thin and don’t absorb water, water just beads up on top of it. Each coaster is defective in that the design is either totally off center and/blurry and looks “stretched out.” These are clearly defective “seconds” but not advertised as such.
