Needs to be switched for hot!

To get this to work for the hot side, you must remove the small O-ring on the stem in order to remove the little metal piece and rotate it 90 degrees. The handles will not align correctly otherwise. Minus 1 star for lack of instructions, otherwise this was an exact replacement for a part I could not find in stores.

Fit perfectly!

I couldn't find this part in any of the box stores or local plumbing supplies stores, but I found the diagram from American standard, the manufacturer. I was able to look up the part number on Amazon and had it the next day.

Perfect except...

Thanks to the other reviewers who explained how to make this work for both HOT and COLD otherwise I would have returned this. The part would be perfect if they simply included instructions on how to convert from cold setup to hot setup. It literally took another reviewer two sentences to explain it, it would cost nothing to print those instructions on the package. Outside of that this fit perfectly and fixed the issue with the old one coming apart.

Exact replacement

This is an exact replacement for the American Standard bathroom faucet.

The cartridge works but...

I had a dripping hot water faucet and can't find these cartridges locally even at home depot where the faucet came from. As others have said, to replace the hot, you need to pull up the tiny black washer near the top and pull up and move the steel washer to the other grooves so it turns the opposite way. That said, it's not exactly the same size as what came with my faucet even though it's the exact model number. It's a tiny bit longer so the faucet handle wouldn't sit down all the way. I ended up with a small gap of about 1/16 to 1/8inch. Plus the replacement nut that comes with this didn't fit either. it was too big. It seems like everything is designed today to force people to just replace the whole thing. The days of designing anything to last or to be easily fixed are history. Give me the days when you could fix a dripping faucet with a 10 cent washer at the local hardware store.
