It is a crying shame when you go to the trouble of buying OE parts only to have them die on you after three months. These things ought to last for a decade, and in years past they did. I bought a pair of these for our leaking AquaSeal American Standard shower (probably from the 1960s) and the rubber cap is just a tiny bit too big. You can feel it dragging in the hole as you turn the knob. The old AS parts had a rotating part that the seal lived on, so it only really had to travel in or out. The new ones have to rotate, too, and my shower does not like that. The caps drag as you turn, and eventually they tear off and get stuck in the pipe so that your water comes on suddenly at about the force of a half-open tap. It just lets go. (It had been dripping for months, but it should never simply let go all at once, no matter how long it has been leaking!) This cartridge started to drip a lot within three months of installation. Installation was done by a plumber. The part simply is a POS. Also, it does NOT come with the large lock ring that is shown in the photo, nor does it come with the screw-in seat. I ordered this one in hopes of fixing the problem with the last one. Nope. It leaks after installation. The Danco substitute part (2K-2H) works better and comes with the needed seat in the same package. I would have given this part a ZERO but Amazon will not allow that, so one star. One undeserved star...

I have an old tub faucet from the 1960's with handles that look like clock gears, and the rubber seal on the hot stem gave out after nearly 60 years. These were a perfect match and it works like new. If you want to go ahead and replace both hot and cold at the same time like I did, you want American Standard 729511700 Replacement Seal for the cold side, since it matched this just fine. Make sure to fully open the stems before installation.
