Basic

This is a very basic, simply constructed instrument. The main working part, the bivalent spring, does need to be fairly precisely fabricated for accuracy of the readout. The instrument is robust in that it must sit directly on the hot surface up to 500F. To provide a cross-check on accuracy, I happened to order the PIC Gauge B2MS-Q 0-500F (ASIN B00FBPEFSM) at the same time. It turns out that other than the dial labeling these two surface thermometers are identical.

Unlike photo, the actual product lacks a F scale. Thermometer takes several minutes to equilibrate. Contact spot is flat - not very good for curved pipes. Display was about 1°C high. Thermometer is solidly built.
