Great …when the app works!

The camera itself is fine.. The picture is clear both during the day and night. However, as others have said, the app is terrible. Setting up was fairly easy, even though we did have to do the firmware update which froze, but once we moved past that, the app is easy to navigate IF it’s working. The first problem we encountered is that once you have video up, the image will freeze, which just looks like a sleeping baby.. I only noticed it wasn’t live because the time in the upper left corner had stopped too. Also, in the last week, on three separate occasions, the app crashed at some point during the night and there wasn’t an alarm or anything that alerted me! For obvious reasons, that’s problematic for a baby monitor.. Luckily, I hadn’t removed our previous monitor from our baby’s room and had it running as a back up. Lastly, if you use a white noise machine, this camera will not filter that noise at all! In fact, it comes through incredibly loud on the app, even on the lowest volume. Needless to say, we’re not keeping this camera because of the unreliability of the app..

This camera was hacked!

Im so sad to be writing this review, but our camera was hacked last night after only having them for a month. I unplug them during the day and only run them at night and I woke up to someone saying “mom, mom, mom” over and over again in my daughter’s room. Im actually sick about it and I probably will never use these again. $120 down the drain and exposed my child to predators.

great cam and ecosystem

the visual quality of this camera is way better than i expected from Safety 1st. I didn't even know that they made electronics until i found this camera. when the motion alerts are accurate, they're very quick. i can really appreciate the speed of delivery when it comes to those. the night vision works really well and is really clear. i use this for my son's room and it helps me so much when keeping an eye on when during his nap while i'm working. i've also set it up with my echo show and the consistent monitoring works great as well when i'm using it. i really don't have any complaint aside from the motion detection and human body detection could be fine tuned a bit more. i do get quite a bit of false positives from the app during the dawn/dusk times of day, but since i've gotten used to that, i've got no complaints.

Great camera, not feature rich, but does the job well

Overall, this is a very good camera, night vision is excellent, thanks to the ring of IR emitters around the face of the camera. Sound detection is very basic, but it does push notifications to my phone, and setup was simple, since I already had the safety 1st app running using their soother. The safety 1st app works well for their camera, no faults there. The first night, the camera dropped the wifi signal for an unknown reason, but has been rock solid for nearly a month since. The included cable is 9+ feet, and they include cable supports and a mounting bracket for the camera. Setup was easy, I plugged the camera into the power supply (standard USB C cable! Thank you!), And it booted right up. I entered my WiFi info into the app, and it displayed a qr code for the camera to read, which finished the setup in about a minute. Sound detection is very basic, we have an Owlet cam 2, and it is very good about detecting cries and not just babbles or coughs. This camera picks up everything, even on low sensitivity, which isn't very useful when the kid is sick. I turned off the motion alerts, since it would say a person is in the room every time we went to tend to the child... I also turned off the status light, which is done on the top right settings button in the camera screen. This one isn't super bright, but anything red or blue at night tends to distract our child. Night vision is excellent, nearly as good as our infant optics pro, and much better than the Owlet cam 2. My picture shows the ring of emitters, similar to the infant optics, but these are hidden being a piece of opaque plastic. Daytime vision is good, on par with the infant optics. The Owlet is better (can read text on a box from 8ft away), but we rarely need the camera when it is light enough in the room. This camera switches from day to night at really low levels of light (less than you would need to read a book). Overall, a very good camera, especially considering the price. I know there was some bad PR with the previous camera, so I don't have super high hopes for this one, but so far it meets my needs, and is affordable.
