Great collar, but sent me the wrong size twice

Pros: They're sturdy, break away well, and have an option to disable the breakaway function. I've been using them for months. Cons: The gold on the metal rubs off pretty quickly (silver underneath). I also went to order a large in black but they sent me a small, and then sent another small after I tried to exchange that one. Overall: I'd definitely recommend this collar, but don't order black I guess?

A little wide for small dogs. Wish it was available in 1/2” wide or a little less.

Safety First!

While our dogs were wrestling one night, the small one's collar got twisted around the bigger one's lower jaw. Thankfully we were home and were able to undo it rather quickly, but it was terrifying when it happnened. I shutter when I think about what would have happened if weren't home. Right way, I jumped online to see if there was such a thing as a breakaway collar and found this product. The little one (15 pounds) now wears this collar in the house. The one complaint that I have is that it's kind of noisy. With the two D-rings for the leash plus the name tag, it jingles and jangles a lot. It's almost like he's wearing a bell when he walks around the house. The collar itself is very bulky, even for a size small. But I figure safety is more important so I stuck with it. I do wish that there was an option to not have the D-rings, as we do not use the collar for walks; both of our dogs have harnesses. Anyways, aside from that one small detail, this thing is great! So far I haven't found it in pieces around the house, but it doesn't mean it won't happen one day. You can never be too safe when it comes to your furry family members.

Works like they should

We have three smaller dogs that like to wrestle, and they like to grab each other's collars. These work like they should, break away when the play gets too rough and give us a ton of peace of mind that no one gets hurt. There are two rings that a leash clasp goes through so that you can still use them like any other collar when walking them.

Not recommended for small dogs

I purchased the small size Petsafe KeepSafe collar, and in my experience it's not fit for purpose on small dogs. My animal wears a 13" collar, but weighs only 13 lbs. I did several stress tests of the breakaway feature before using this collar on my dog, and was never able to get it to release with less than 17 lbs of force in any scenario. The 17 lb release was a pull with steady, increasing force on either side of the breakaway buckle. In other situations where the buckle was on the opposite side of a single source of force, or there was erratic force, or twisting, the force required was greater. I'm not confident my small dog would ever be able to apply enough force to release the buckle of this collar in a true emergency. In addition, the stiffness of the two plastic buckles and the weight of the two metal D-rings in such a short length of collar makes the fit very bulky and cumbersome on a small animal. He looks miserable. I'm giving two stars rather than only one for this product, because although I don't have experience with usage on a large dog, the break-away mechanism seems like it would perform well if the animal were heavy enough to trigger it, the safety features wouldn't be so cumbersome on a longer length of collar, and obviously this brand has many more positive ratings than negative ones so it must be working for somebody.

Doesn't work on small dogs

Got these for all of our chihuahua's but they don't work. One of our dogs somehow manages to get his paw under the collar when he's scatching. He did it with this collar on but it didn't breakaway. The clip is too made too tight for a small dog to pop it loose. It takes a fair amount of force to separate the two sections, and small dogs just aren't strong enough.

This collar saved my dog from serious injury

This is an absolutely true review by a real purchaser of this collar and owner of 3 dogs. This collar saved my dog from serious injury. My 18 pd. Schoodle was racing up some flagstone steps. His dog tag got freakishly caught in a crack on the edge of one of the steps. This collar broke away and he kept running. If he had had a normal collar on he would have been jerked back so hard our Vet said it would have caused serious injury to his neck. I bought this collars to prevent out dogs' collars from getting stuck on fences, latches etc. I never expected it would save one of my dogs the way it did.

Too wide, too heavy for a small dog

This is far too big for my 12 pound dog. Too heavy, and just too big. I suppose it’ll work for others, but I gave mine away because because it wouldn’t work for my little mutt. I did order the correct size.

Great buy.

Great buy. Got this after a lady had told us at puppy traing that her two dogs had got their collars tangled and one of them nearly choked to death as they could not release them. The vet told her that dogs die mostly due to collar strangulation. Getting them caught on cages, fences and all sorts. We got one for peice of mind and were pleased with the quality and price.

Great little collar

Great little collar. The breakaway seems to work as it should - doesn't come apart too easily but splits with a bit of a tug.

Good idea not for a beagle though

Really good idea and well made but as used on a beagle who has his nose in everything everytime you pull him away from something off comes the collar. Gone back to standard collar and just supervising the dog more
