I love needlework books that are clear, expert, practical and inspiring

How can I not love a needlework book that starts with "Getting Ready to Get Started: Materials and Equipment" with the second chapter being, "Taking the First Stitch?" How can I not love a book that includes 92 stitches including variations with pretty good stitch diagrams? How can I not love a book that, though being over 20 years old, has 31 projects on 16 pages of beautiful color photos? The answer is...I can't! Please know, however, that this book is not for raw beginners except those of you who pick up on new things very quickly. None of the projects here are graphed out from start to finish although a few are shown in rough outline form that you would be able to duplicate if you're already familiar with completing needlepoint or canvaswork projects. The projects that are 3-dimensional include a cushion, dice cup, eyeglass case, notebook cover,framed picture, paperweight and napkin rings. The paperweight covers a large pebble (honestly!) and, like several other projects, requires some use of a sewing machine. There is a fairly good final chapter on suggestions for better stitching and a chapter on how to "make-up" or finish items like with cording, tassels, etc. I'm in the mood to design my own projects and this book has zoomed to the top of my list of books to help me do so. (I own about 800 needlework books so that's saying a lot.) 92 stitches to choose from? Excellent! I also own the author's: Needleweaving and Embroidery: Embellished Treasures (Milner Craft Series) which I highly recommend and am thinking of getting her: Threadwork: Silks, Stitches, Beads & Cords (Milner Craft Series) Casalguidi Linen Embroidery Decorative Tassels and Cords
