I came home from weeks in the hospital somewhat wobbly on my feet - so I needed a grab-bar. I got an item a lot like this one for my dad when he came home from the hospital a couple of years ago for around $80. Note: to get the suction cups to really hold, take a damp washcloth and scrub the places where the cups will go. Wet the cups a bit, then, while pushing the suction cup into the wall, flip the lever. 24" is more than I need. It seems strongest with the bar vertical (one cup above the other). The only reason to get a bar this long, and mount it vertically is if there are multiple people who are going to use it - and there's a height range.

The grab bar slides side ways, but can be used to push up perpendicular.

SUCTION DOES NOT HOLD

purchased for mother for use in shower stall after her hip surgery. Its very dangerous and does not hold. She was not even putting much of her weight on it.. Seller also makes it difficult to return. They do not honor amazon 30 day return policy.. so dont order it just to "try out"

I really like my shower bar

I have a small handle and thought a longer one would help me feel more secure when I have my eyes closed getting soap or shampoo out of my eyes...it does the job. DO NOT use these suction handles to pull on or use for weight bearing. They are to give a person peace of mind they can touch something other than a wet, slipper shower wall. If your shower is tiled or textured don't buy it.

Handy, but doesn't stay put

I like the fact that these are so easy to put up. I did the surface cleaning, followed the instructions. But they keep coming down from my shower walls. The walls are flat and smooth but these handles keep coming down after a month of so. I needed them after knee replacement, and found they don't support pulling up with them. For safety, have a metal one put in permanently.

should i buy one ?

my answer w/b NO - we attached to a clean dry smooth surface and went back the next day to see how it did - one end was hanging free while the other end was still attached - so unless you are going to take it and install it every time you jump in the shower i would suggest something professionally mounted to the wall on the other hand if you just need it for temporary balance once in a while , and want to take it in and install it every time you shower, it may work for you

It works! With adjustments

It works when you don’t put the suction over the grout. I tried centering it to my shower, but it wouldn’t stick at all when it was positioned on the grout. Make sure suction cups are on top of the tile only.

Would not hold

I washed the tiles 3 times, it stuck for a couple of days,one end kept coming off, again on the cleaning, one end just would not hold—not a very good product
