Lasco shower pressure balance cartridge

As of today, leak has stopped since I replaced the cartridge. Good product and would recommend it to anyone who would ask about it.

Exact fit

Be sure to pull the handle and plate off to read the model number on your valve body! I have done these a lot and still you want to go to the manufacture to cross reference fit and function!! So far one year of use and no more valve chatter! Very happy

Repairing 1994 Price Pfister Bodyguard Shower

I just repaired my dripping 1994 Price Pfister Bodyguard shower valve and wanted to pass along info that might help someone else doing repairs. Apparently PP obsoleted the original 974-491 cartridge and there are just a few after market ones floating around. The cartridge is the typical source of drips since it holds the sealing O rings. It's not entirely clear what the direct replacement is. I tried the alternative and more available 974-291 and it works great. I have what's called the "5 screw" valve. When you take apart the valve, you need to replace two old O rings otherwise the valve assembly will drip behind the wall. They are easy to find at a good hardware store. They are OD 5/8, ID 7/16, 3/32 thick and OD 1-7/8, ID 1-11/16, 3/32 thick The smaller O ring goes on the valve stem and larger one goes on the cover. The valve stem assembly just pushes out backwards from the cover. Note how the valve stem goes on, otherwise the hot and cold will reverse. The valve cover assembly just pulls off once the 5 screws are off. To keep the valve from dripping behind the wall I fashioned a drip guard from a cut up pie pan. Good luck
