CREATE YOUR OWN DESK SET is a fun activity kit that provides a pen/pencil holder, cool pen, notepad, erasers, and name plate. The book also includes materials and instructions to create adorable and clever pen and pencil toppers (you provide the writing implements, the kit provides the topper materials). What I loved: This is a really fun activity, especially in the time when virtual classes are becoming more common. Having a unique desk setup is something children can enjoy- for classes or for doing homework. This kit creates some really fun items, including the desk plate and rainbow pen/pencil holder. If children are crafty, this can also keep them quite entertained with making pen and pencil toppers with the materials included within, to be displayed in their new holder. The package includes everything except the writing implements to decorate with glue and precut craft items needed for the toppers in the book. This could be a great way to spark creativity and allow for future designs to be imagined as well. The book does a great job of walking step-by-step through the instructions, complete with pictures. It is easy to follow along, though does take some patience in places. Due to the complexity and nature of a desk set, this works best for older children and preteens (I'd suggest 8 and up). That being said, this is a kit that can keep creative children busy for a while, designing the desk top of their dreams. On another note, the pen that comes with the kit (rainbow with moving glitter) not only looks supercool, but also has a fine tip that writes beautifully - despite being an adult, I also really enjoy writing with it, and this makes it an extra-fun feature. The name plate is also a really great touch. What left me wanting more: As a small point, it would have been cool for the package to include extra pencils or pens for use in decorating, so that it's a real all-in-one kit. That being said, at least most people have extra pens and pencils around that children can use to decorate. Final verdict: An entertaining kit for children setting up their desk, CREATE YOUR OWN DESK SET is a fun choice for a crafty gift. Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
