I thought since the stairs were "collapsible," I'd be able to fold them up regularly.... Nope.

I was surprised to get a pretty lightweight, flat box in the mail. I couldn't think of what I ordered that was this flat. Even after I opened the box, I couldn't figure out what it was. These steps are just corrugated plastic sheets (think corrugated cardboard, but plastic instead) that you fold into steps. Then you (struggle to) put a cover over it and zip it up. You certainly aren't going to be taking the cover off and disassembling these things, so saying they are "collapsible" in the title is quite the stretch. I guess if you were going to move, you might take the time to do this, but that's about it. Also, the quality of the materials seems pretty cheap. The zipper and fabric seem flimsy to start with (plus they are stretched tight), so I'm guessing it won't last more than a couple washings. I'm going to try to spot wash to try to stretch out the life of these a bit. The stairs are definitely lightweight and easy to move around, but that comes at a cost. They are just corrugated plastic, so they are not sturdy. They wiggle when even my cat walks up them. It's unsettling to my other cat, so he skips them altogether. They say there's a 50-pound limit, but I think that is pretty optimistic, as well. Not thrilled with these steps. Next time I will opt for steps that TRULY ARE COLLAPSIBLE... and sturdy. I think $60 (current price for these) is pretty outrageous for what you get. I have a TON of K&H products (mostly their heating pads), so this order was pretty disappointing.

Super lightweight, fairly easy to assemble, not suitable for larger pets

If your pet will use these, they can be quite helpful!! We have two senior cats with our oldest cat nearing the age of 17!! The stairs do need to be assembled. I didn't find the task to be difficult. The instructions were well written and easy to follow. At first glance, the pieces looked a little flimsy. I was thinking there was no way they were going to be sturdy enough. Once everything was locked in place and the cover was put on, I was more optimistic about them. Just be aware, the outer cover is a VERY tight squeeze. I would not recommend taking them apart and folding them up again and again. I'm not sure the zipper could take that kind of strain. I love the look and feel of this product. It's clean, simple, and not an eye sore. We have another set of pet stairs (4 steps) that is tall enough to allow our cats to get onto our dresser or bed, depending on where we have it located. This one is too short for that. It is suitable for helping an aging pet to get onto a couch, though. The steps are made of a thin plastic. Once covered, they feel solid but do wiggle around a bit when our pets use them. For this reason, I don't think that all pets would be comfortable or confident walking up and down them, especially if they are heavier or larger in size. I see that the listing states that these would be suitable for pets up to 50 lbs and I have to disagree with that. Our cat is around 13 lbs and the steps wiggle and shake a bit when she goes up and down them! Our dog, who is around 30 pounds, cannot use them due to the wobbliness. They are much better suited to smaller sized pets. I appreciate that you can remove the outer cover to wash it if needed. Anyone with cats know how much they love throwing up on soft things!!!!!!! Thankfully, we haven't had any issues yet but I'm sure there will be a time down the line when I will appreciate the removable cover. LOL

Very lightweight pet stairs

I have an elderly cat that should not be jumping and another cat who just seems to wait to get up to places with minimal jumping. Both cats always want to be on the bed, especially at night. These pet stairs seemed like a great solution vs make-shift stacking stuff by the bed and indeed, the cats quickly took to using them. Once assembled, the stairs are very lightweight. You'll never have any problem moving them around as needed. Assembly was a bit of a chore, but not too bad. But once you have it assembled, you're really not want to have to go through the process to collapse them unless necessary. The stairs are made up of three pieces: two section of corrugated plastic board and the zip cover. The corrugated plastic board pieces connect together with hook and loop fastener, and on the initial set up, you'll want to make sure to bend on the lines, as they are not fully bent out of the box. The zip cover is a tight fit, which is nice as it just makes it feel like a complete piece. It comes off and is washable if needed. They seem quite sturdy, but they are not going to hold much weight. The product is advertised as up to 50 lb pet, but I mean, the pet is going to be walking up and down, perhaps jumping and putting their weight on the size of their paw. Worse case is just the corrugated plastic board bending/pressing in where it shouldn't, but if that happens it will compromise the sturdiness at that area. Using weights (and watching the cats), it seems that a 20 lb pet I would not worry at all. Overall for small pets they are very lightweight and sturdy pet stairs, but if you want them for the collapsible/travel aspect that is advertised, I personally would find another type, as it's going to be a chose to collapse/set up these stairs.
