the pen is so fun!

I bought this for my son for his 4th birthday & he loves it! Gets a huge kick out of using the pen and loves working his letters. The book is pretty durable, the cards... with my son being four, some ended up sticky and sticking to each other. Unfortunately some were ruined when I tried to "unstick" them. Otherwise, fun. I wouldn't purchase the cards again due to 'my son will destroy it' and i feel it would be if they were thicker and not so easily torn.

Kids Were Entertained for A Few Minutes

Pros: This will be fun for elementary school aged kids, but by the time they reach that age, this will be less challenging. Cons: The dog pen barks whether my toddler gets the answers right or wrong, and this is kind of confusing. A happy bark verses a sad bark, is still a bark and a bit confusing for a preschooler. Also, sometimes the barks are wrong. If I select the right answer, I will get a sad bark. This is confusing even for me (LoL)! I would say not really age appropriate for kids under 4 years of age. Also, I am not happy with the pen reinforcing wrong answers as right answers and vice versa. Fortunately this happened for only one card, but for the price, it should not happen at all.

Perfect gift

Gave this to my son for Christmas and he loves it. He likes the interactive aspect of it and I feel good knowing if he gets it wrong and I'm not right there he'll know he has to keep trying. He does sometimes purposely get it wrong to hear all the noises.

Visual identification

I probably would have returned this had my 4 year old daughter not decided she needed to keep it. It helps with the visual identification between upper and lowercase letters. Unfortunately there is some reading that has to be done, which my daughter can't, as well as knowing the letters to start with, which she struggles with sometimes. But for the right kids, it'd probably make a great toy or gift.

Great educational activity

Loved it. Easy to use, great for kids who love to learn. The games are fast. I would like to see the 'dots' a little larger, but other than that i like this product and would gift it to a friend.

Great learning tool

My daughter was very excited to receive this Hot Dots set. It reinforces a lot of what she is learning in school. She loved watching the pen light up and hearing it make noise. It was very easy for her to tell if she got the answer right or wrong. We have not had any technical problems, though she does need a little coaching on how to press the pen the right way. Taking off one star because its not quite an independent activity if your child does not know how to read. You can't just give it to them and walk away. They will need some adult oversight. Other than that, it's a great purchase and a more interactive way of practicing these skills vs. a worksheet.
