Cut is Very Trim

Normally a medium fits well in Columbia brand, since I wear 8-10. Reviewers suggested ordering up on this hoodie, so I purchased a large. It is trim cut and more huggy than preferred, even when upsized. Like the fabric. The bright poppy color is quite orange, which works for me.

Not the cool comfort I'd hoped

Rather than the silky, cool feel of the Place to Place sun shirts, this fabric is much more like a standard t-shirt knit. The sizing is a touch small through the shoulders; I'm usually a perfect medium in Columbia but this was snug when bringing my arms forward. The hood is a good size and has ties to adjust. The "bright poppy" colour is NOT the vivid red shown in the product photos; it's coral, and I'm not particularly happy about that. Most of all, though, I expected that something called a "solar shade" hoodie would be comfortable to wear in warm, sunny conditions - having worn this on a light, easy 90min hike on a sunny but not-that-warm (20c/68f) day, I was sweating buckets and wishing I could take it off (but I had no layer underneath, as there isn't really room for one). I had hoped that this would be a versatile shirt for motorcycle touring when I need something to keep me from burning while I ride, then could protect me while walking trails. Rode my motorcycle in it and it was just ok; the tall neck and hood caught the wind and pressed on my throat, and the sleeves blew up my arms leaving them partly exposed. I'd add thumb loops to prevent that, but honestly I'm not sure I'll even keep it as I'm disappointed in it overall.
