Great fun without price gauging
Fun to use making drinks on St. Patrick’s Day, or any other day! The price is great, and makes it fun to use without feeling like you’ve overpaid!

Perfect Separation
Look what this little guy does with Guinness Draught Stout over Stella Artois! No fuss, no muss! Well actually, you pour the Guinness slowly and if you're not careful it will run down the bottle and on to the table, but the little turtle does his job exceedingly well. Five Stars!

I really wanted to let this
So the turtle is very attractive (daughter gets a real kick out of it) but it doesn't make the greatest layered beers. It just sits too hit. I used to make black and tans and half and half's years ago with a bent spoon or even just angling the glass and if I remember correctly I got much better separation than with this turtle. Admittedly I've only made a few black and tans with the turtle so there could be a learning curve (not sure what else you can do than to make sure the first (light beer) has a little head and to pour the second slowly). Maybe I need to pour quickly? However it get's four stars because of the appeal. It's a great conversation starter and a okay bottle opener. Why do I say it's only okay as a bottle opener? Well it's actually a little sharp around the edges too. I can see that if I had been drinking a few and not careful I could potentially cut myself with it. I plan to update this review in a few weeks if I get better results after I try making more. I really wanted to buy a few of these as gifts and still might even it it doesn't work that well since it looks pretty cool with my other bar utensils. Also the cardboard holder actually has a list of beer recipes on the back which I wasn't expecting so that was pretty cool. And if it matters to anyone, the product is made in India (as stated on the cardboard).

More a semi-functional 'artifact' than an intellegently designed cullinary tool.
Apparently only works at all with 'pub draft' variety {i.e. containing nitrogen instead of yeast-induced carbonation} dark beers and at that, not nearly as well as the standard 'pour spoon' design. Tried using this repeatedly for pouring Guinness Extra Stout (which's not a 'pub draft') 'half+half's /'black+tan's and could not get it to work at all. Seems the physics of how one beer can be suspended over another has as much to do with the 'bubbly' content's chemical composition as it does with liquid density, and this device rather cuts the suspension effect off at the knees without the aid of nitrogen in the suspension; due to having fully SIX points of flow-division--as opposed to only one with a traditional, circular pour-spoon. & if you really want to know what that implies? Consider that as liquid pours freely through air, it IS ALSO subject to the 'Coriolis effect'. (Which's to say, our planetary-rotation's induced spinning action doesn't ONLY happen as it's going down your drains, naturally. ; ) = there's only 2 points of pour 'curling' as such around either side of a pour-spoon's handle... - on this item you're working with 5xs MORE little pouring 'eddies', thus making a full DOZEN 'whirl-pool' points as it's being poured into the 1st beer in the glass. Whell, of course we know how that works out... This pouring device actually CAUSES 500% more stirring action which's exactly what it's supposed to prevent, literally drilling through the 'meniscus' of the first beer which's to be disturbed as little as possible.

Very Cool, and Better than the Guinness Spoon
I bought a Black and Tan Turtle as well as a traditional Guinness brand pouring spoon so that I could make proper snakebites at home. While I was not particularly impressed with the Guinness spoon, possibly because it requires more patience and skill than I possess to get a good pour. The Turtle, on the other hand, is much easier to use. It sits lower in the glass, which decreases the distance the Guinness has to travel and thereby minimizes the mixing of the two liquids. It also has a larger and more centered dome surface which distributes the Guinness more slowly and evenly. In my experience, this worked much better at getting good separation when pouring snakebites. The Turtle also gets bonus points in my book for being a bottle opener and for being shaped like an angry turtle. :) Pros: Better pour than Guinness spoon Bottle opener Cool turtle shape Stainless steel for easy cleaning and hopefully long life Cons: Slightly more expensive than the Guinness spoon Has some nooks that are not so easy to clean if washing by hand Turtle mouth is sharp and may be unsafe in the hands of children

First time success!
I have always loved a Black and Tan, but never been able to duplicate it at home with much success. The result was usually a muddy brown. The first time I tried this turtle, the result was terrific, even though I used Harp rather than Bass for the lower layer. Not much more I can say - it is great for making layered drinks. Oh, yes, there is something else to say. This turtle doesn't fit well on some beer glasses - it's designed for a wide mouth glass. I made it work by holding it level when using a narrower glass, but it sits fine on a wide glass.

4/5 Beer Turtle, efficient and effective.
The Lagerhead Black and Tan Turtle has done exactly as it is supposed to for this avid beer lover. I've made plenty of interesting variations on the black and tan using various craft brews and the turtle has fit all of my nonic pints and tulip glasses beautifully. The reason I give the adorable little turtle whom sits on my desk a 4/5 rather than a perfect grade, is that he could use with being a little more rigid. The neck bends back a bit when removing the cap from bottles and I fear one day the bend will go too far. Other than that I am pleased with my purchase as it makes the whole process of B&T's much quicker and efficient, and the fact is he's kind of cute too. For the most part I recommend this product to anyone, just be wary of the intensity you use it with.

Works perfectly.
I needed something so that I could duplicate my favourite "Black and Tan" from the local pub. The Lagerhead Black & Tan Turtle is the perfect tool for the job. Perhaps too perfect, as now all my friends want to come to my house for their pint after work!
