Creative Alphabet Fun, Minor Annoyances

I bought these for my 3 year old son. He already knows his letters and sounds, but needs to work on forming the letters and these are a great manipulative to help him learn how to do that. Pros: - The stix are just the right size for the letters so that they fit on top of the tracings almost perfectly. A few stix need to be cut in half or thirds for the shorter segments, like the horizontal line of the A, but most of the pieces fit at the right length over the letters on the cards. - I like that the stix are made of yarn and wax, so that they are non-toxic. I don't have to worry about any chemicals getting on his hands that he has to wash off after he's done playing with them. - They're easy to bend and adjust and easily stick to themselves so you can make other creations as well. - They're relatively sticky on the included cardstock alphabet cards, any plastic type surface, dry-erase board, basically anything with a shiny coating, but does not stick to your hands (similar to the stickiness of a sticky note pad). - Only a light pressure is needed to keep the stix in place, even upside down. - Great assortment of colors - red, pink, orange, light green, dark green, light blue, dark blue, purple, black - Reusable again and again Cons: - Some of the wax rubs off onto the alphabet cardstock and require periodic cleaning. I agree with another reviewer who suggested laminating the cards to make clean up easier. - Once they're taken off the plastic backing, they don't stick back on very well anymore as they don't lay straight. You'll need another container or baggie to store them in to keep from losing them. If you're looking for a product to help develop writing skills, these are great manipulatives to pick up, just be prepared to clean the cards off every so often and get a little baggie to store them.

Great learning tool

I purchased this to help my son learn his letters. He won't play with this for very long periods of time, but he is getting a lot out of it during the time we do spend with them. One thing I really like is that the capital and lowercase version of the letter is on the same card. We are caught in the middle of my son knowing some lowercase letters and some uppercase letters, but this helps to show that they both represent the same thing. I definitely recommend doing as suggested on the instructions and cutting some of the "sticks" down so that the letters can be properly made. The only thing that is a bit annoying, but of no fault of the manufacturer, is that the dog hair from our merry band of mutts gets stuck all over them when we play on the carpet no matter how recently I vacuumed. It is also a bit time consuming to untangle the sticks after my son wads them all up into a jumbled mess. (Again, this is to be expected with wax sticks, but it still doesn't make it fun to untangle them.) Also, on a side note, I have found that Wiki Sticks are the PERFECT way to hang stockings under the mantle! I just happened to be contemplating how to hang them more effectively than last year when I looked up and saw a stash of Wiki Sticks sitting on the mantle :)

Great activity for Littles, especially during read aloud time

I bought this for my preschooler to do while I was teaching my kindergartener (first year homeschoolers). She LOVED it! My only recommendation is to keep them in a place where your kids can’t access them without permission - haha! Mine loved them so much they used the wiki sticks in a lot of imaginary play and they got lost/rolled up into a ball. I need to replace the sticks, but I think that speaks well of how much my kids enjoyed them.

My boys are too busying having fun to realize their playing is actually learning too!

I am homeschooling a 5 yr old reluctant learner. Whew. It can be exhausting trying to figure out ways to engage him and his 3 year old little brother each day. I was searching Amazon and school sites for various ideas to reinforce the alphabet and came across WikkiStix. I need things I can pull out that will engage him so I can do other things, but that draw his attention and makes him excite to learn and practice. These were just what the 'teacher' ordered! I've only ever used WikkiStix for play in the past so using them for learning was perfect! My little boys get so excited when I pull these out to make letters. I'm not sure they realize learning is happening. They think it's a fun game. EXACTLY what I was hoping for! So thankful that WikkiStix makes these letter cards. Made my life that much easier. One purchase and I'm done. They use them over and over! It was a huge hit with both my 3 & 5 yr olds!

Good tools for learning letters

This product is not a must-have, but we needed some support for learning letters with my 4yo and for us it hits the mark. My daughter loves to outline the letters with the wikistix, and the cards are a great size to hang on the wall (or leave in a visible spot) for continued practice and reinforcement. For our purposes, they don't need laminated. Honestly, after reading the reviews, I was afraid my daughter wouldn't go for them, but she does really like them & they are helping her learn!
