looks good but is significantly lighter than my floor

This is nice. i live near the ocean and metal grates rust within a few years. this one is wood and the non-visible part is plastic so that wont be an issue. i thought the price was very good. However, my floor is significantly darker and I didn't appreciate how much that would stand out. I might see if i can find a produce to stain it but then it isn't cheap anymore and I'm not sure how compatible such a product will be with the existing finish. So think about the color. I think this one is almost unstained, like a natural wood color, whereas my floor has significant darkening stain. it is taller than a metal grate but it would have to be or else it would to weak, so that is a good think but be sure to consider how a raised surface might interact with doors and etc.

Needed 'surgery' to make it fit

I fear it is PROBABLY because the vents in my house were a 'non-standard' size but I had to do some surgery and cut bits of plastic off the shoulder that sits inside the vent to secure the cover. Removing that resolved the 'fit' issue though, and the actual cover is nicely made and looks perfect with a wood floor. Nice product and I trust this was a 'one off' issue on my part because of a home construction issue rather than an actual defect with the product. If it happens to others, remember, there is an 'easy' fix -- cut away the offending plastic with a hand saw or box knife ....

Decent Product

When Lowe's was out of the wooden-faced floor registers I had bought for other rooms, I went to Amazon to see what was available there. Fortunately, these were available and looked to be the same. They are by a different company, but appear to be the same, except for one thing. These are much lighter in finish, lighter than the picture. This ostensibly gives you the option of any darkness you want, if you are willing to stain them yourself. That would mean staining all of the louvers as well, which could be done with a small brush. My only reservation about these or the Lowe's product is the plastic connection with the duct. The grille that opens and closes is also plastic. I haven't had any trouble with this, but it just feels cheap. Fortunately, you can't see it. The product touts the "rust proof damper box," but I've never had any problem with rust before, so I don't know if this is legit or not. Anyway, I would recommend this to anyone, with this reservation in mind.

The grain was fine, but took stain well and after two coats

I bought two of these to cover vents in the base of my kitchen cabinets. One of the vents is at the kitchen sink. There is a black plastic tab that allows you to open/close the vent, which is handy. The grain was fine, but took stain well and after two coats, it was a fair match to the dark stain on my maple cabinets. I had to remove the plastic closure/piece on the back of the other vent and trim both sides on the table saw to get it installed over shoe molding. The trim carpenter ran shoe across one opening and stopped just shy on either side of the other opening, but I'm the only person that will ever notice. Great product overall and it beats the socks off of the metal covers that the HVAC guy provided.

Good quality, reasonable price

Purchased this grate to replace a broken one. The price is less than hardware store prices and it is a good quality item.

Drop in wood floor vent

Doing main floor remodel and wanted new wood floor vents when I installed the new hard wood flooring, I picked unfinished red oak vents, had the wife varnish them, they need maybe one more coat to make it darker. Overall the vent is not bad but they stick up more than I want them too, I will get use to it but overall nice vent for hardwood flooring.
