No hole for the kneecap is not a great choice.

I did not find the fit of this brace to be ideal, mostly because it doesn't have a hole for the kneecap. I obviously was aware of this when I bought it, I just didn't realize how much of a difference that would make. It essentially forced my kneecap to shift inward as I walked, rather than allowing for its natural motion. This very quickly caused discomfort for me. For context, I had 2nd-degree sprains of my ACL and medial meniscus, and first degree sprains of the MCL and LCL from an injury about 5 months ago. I go without a brace for most of the day, but still like to have some support for more vigorous activities. My original brace has hinges and is pretty bulky and stiff for this point in my recovery, so I was looking for something lighter-duty but with some lateral structure, like the stays that this brace has. I like everything g about this brace except for the kneecap hole problem - it stays in place well, doesn't dig in or chafe, has sturdy, comfortable materials and a good price. Unfortunately, it is actually causing me discomfort bordering on pain when I use it.

I could tell that my knee wasn't as painful. I liked two things about this knee brace

I have bursitis and tendonitis. At first, I couldn't tell if this brace made a difference. But after standing about an hour, I could tell that my knee wasn't as painful. I liked two things about this knee brace. First, it helps keep my knee warm. Second, it only has two straps(top & bottom) and not the third uncomfortable strap in the middle that other knee braces have. That uncomfortable middle strap on other brands used to bunch up behind my knee. The price isn't bad too! I paid $18.66 for one.
