I love how these pants fit and feel

I love how these pants fit and feel, and they are absolutely perfect for my summertime adventures camping and bushcrafting. The material is light and breathes well, I stay cooler than in any shorts that I own because of the extra sun protection on my legs. They dry super fast, I waded across a river and was dry in 20 minutes. That is the perfect segue to the flaws, because first and foremost is the repellency treatment. It was gone in the first wash. I understand I probably should have taken greater care in choosing detergent and wash cycle, but that kind of misses the point. I want a carefree garment. Next would be the fabric pilling in the crotch and thighs, so far it hasn't worn through, but such a thin material it concerns me. Lastly would be the belt, it's ok, but that's about it. It's fitted to the pants, they won't take a normal belt, so that's a downside. I find also that when I carry my knife on the belt, the buckle loosens constantly. I would never wear these outside of spring and summer, they are just too light. But for those seasons they can't be beat.

I bought two pair of these and they both fit perfectly fine. I like them almost as much as the Battle Ridge pants for everyday casual wear and more than those while hiking. My only complaint with these is the semi-permanent belt installation. The belt is fine but I can't really swap the belt out because of the way it channels through the back of the pants. This means that I have to carry multiple belts during hikes which is a big deal when I'm counting the ounces in my backpack. Also, on one of the pants, one side of the belt keeps rotating out of position while being washed, it's not a big deal to me, but FYI and all that.

Slippery slope towards dorkdom.

So...what does one say about pants that do what they say they will? Well I would question any statement from pants themselves. However the guy wearing the pants may say a few things of value. They fit as expected. Not too baggy, not so snug that I felt like my junk was going to climb back inside. The belt is useful, so long as I remember to put it back after machine washing. The pockets are roomy enough for a bunch of stuff I took along while being a TOURIST! That is the only problem I found with these pants, I have always associated them with goofy, dorky tourist types. I was afraid that I would become one if I wore them. Good news, no total dorkification happened, I remain cool enough in the eyes of my kids to be seen with. That and they were light-weight, dried quickly and packable as hell. 5 Stars.

Get what you pay for

First, these were very cheap so I cannot complain at all about the purchase. Just because they are cheap does not make them a 5 star value. The photos are misleading. One would think that, because they show the short pant, even though it is not in the description, that they are convertable. They are not. Legs do NOT zip off. Don't be fooled by the pictures. Fit is poor - very short through the crotch to the waist. I would expect more room in this region given that I ordered a 36 waist 34 length (large). 36 waist in this pant is more of a medium. The positive? VERY inexpensive, so my expectations were already low. Material is a decent breathable fabric as expected.

Next best thing to naked!

Next best thing to naked! The fabric is soft and light. The first time I washed them, they came out of the dryer feeling slightly damp, and a dry warm breeze would undoubtedly dry them even while wearing them. The side pockets are gusseted. I hate it when manufacturers make light pants with little sissy pockets. Happy to report these pants have functional pockets. I was somewhat leery of this style of belt as it was a new concept to me. Even though the belt doesn't have loops in the back, it continues through the pants as you would expect. I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs and usually wear a 38x34. That's what I ordered and they fit perfectly. The style is flattering, also. I'll be wearing these on a fishing trip soon and I'll try to report how they wear when wading in water.

Quick dry!

Bought for my 15-year-old son for hiking. True to size, comfortable (he says), and quick-drying, just in case you can’t resist swimming in that clear mountain lake even though you didn’t bring shorts ‘cause you didn’t think you’d need them even though your mom said, “they don’t weigh much and you’ll wish you had them because I know you and I know you’ll try to swim in that freezing water” which, actually wasn’t that cold, and the fish weren’t biting, anyway (and besides, they’re a million little microtrout) . . . Where was I? Oh, yeah. Columbia hiking pants are always a good choice.

Just the pants i needed for backpacking!

Perfect lightbreathavle. The material is super breathable and comfy. I wear these on my hikes when the tempature is anywhere from 60-90 degrees... the material offers some protection from the direct heat of the sun without retaining too much of your body warmth! The pants don't hold moisture and seem to wick it a bit. They dry very fast. The only negative I have had is the belt getting twised inside the pants. it just takes a minute to untangle. Other than that, pefect!

great choice, one small issue

Light to wear, comfy, very wearable. Size may run small. One issue, when washed the included belt twists (belt resides in a tunnel around the waste, there are no individual belt loops. The twist can be a challenge to put right. I may try to safety pin the belt in place when washing. But I love these pants.

These are nice quality, but I had to request a return because the 40W/32 size is actually 42" around the waistband, making them way too big.
