Beautiful beautiful beautiful lamp. I'm so pleased. I read about it tipping, not holding bulbs, blah, blah. It does not tip and it's using a LED bulb, which weighs 3 lbs. The suggested was a 150 watt incandescent 3-way bulb. But, I had fear of obsolescence. And husband convinced me to go LED route. Better lighting and a savings of approximately $300/yr. I didn't select equivalent of 150 watts for brightest setting (manufacturer recommendation). I selected 100 watts because my husband convinced me that it would be bright enough. I went along with him, thinking, I'll just use it elsewhere when we see he was wrong. But he wasn't wrong. The equivalent of 100 watt we chose - from Amazon - was the Feit Electric Performance LED with brightness of 600, 1100, and 1600 lumens, true soft white. Look it up and read about it for more info. Cost annually, using 3 hrs daily, saves $214 in energy costs and will last about 23 years. Life of light: 25,000 hours (this is manufacturer's claim - not something I know thru experience). It's perfect fit for the new lamp I LOVE. FINALLY: I can read a book without using hands free sewing/reading light, which uses batteries. Must include: First time Amazon shipped our lamp, the shade was not properly packed & arrived damaged. We contacted Amazon. Went through super easy returning process and had new, properly packaged, perfect lamp and shade 2 days later. Super fast turn around. We do have a Prime membership. Go Prime; you'll love the benefits. Amazon had never shipped a package, which was packed improperly since I began shopping there for books in the 90's. So many other retailers have nice items, but fail to properly pack. That item is useless upon receipt. Then retailers' feet are dragged in order to receive replacement or credit. Amazon gives you a choice regarding replacement or refund. You don't always get that option. Amazon's service is a 10 on 1 - 10 scale. Obviously, they train their employees on proper packaging, as we've witnessed Amazon's service for years - with every package arriving intact. Actually, I've no idea who does the packaging. But, Amazon's name and reputation are tied to each shipment. Unfortunately, any company can hire someone who seems to be a good investment, then that hire has a bad day, is angry, doesn't care - has something going on with attitude that is bad for his/her employer. Every company gets such an employee at some point. But, this error (although I was angry upon receipt of order - bc in my mind - no excuse for the lazy packaging) increased my faith in Amazon because of the manner in which they resolved the problem. My husband messaged that shade should be shipped in a box of its own, within the large box for the lamp. We'll never know if they followed through with his suggestion or simply packed the shade and lamp according to their standard instructions. Regardless, ***** (five stars) for Amazon; our new lamp and the nice 3 way Feit LED bulb we ordered for the lamp. Saying useful aspect of lamp exceeds beauty is incredibly high praise regarding this lamp. I love the shade, I saw complaints in other reviews. It is as it is shown. It's simple, clean lines, off-white/cream color. The large, 3 way, 3 lb LED bulb fits. The bulb is large, but can't be seen. The bulb we ordered was described: same color standard incandescent bulb. But: light is much better. A bulb equivalent to 150 watts, in our (now that we are using it, it's "our" opinion ;-) - was not needed. The first setting on this 3 way gave more light than the lamp I'd been using. I can read comfortably on second setting, of course 100 watts allows for threading needless, cleaning thoroughly, and all other things for which bright light is needed. Dim or medium for this task. No "shadows problem"; no light distribution problem; no "color" problem. I recommend investing in a nice Feit 3 way, 100 watt bulb for energy savings/cost effectiveness. Not changing a bulb for 22 - 23 years - I'll never have to replace this bulb! (Lifetime warranty on bulb.) Ha. Check out the lamp if you're searching for modern, contemporary, or traditional room - or combo or eclectic. It will fit every decor. Rare, but true regarding this lamp. I want two others. One for family room sofa or my reading chair. And 1 for the "formal" living area. Dress down or up. It's a versatile lamp. Leave two for me, please! :-)
