Beyond the call of duty

I purchased these as light hikers for the summer months, specifically for a trip to Yosemite/Sequoias. I’ve been struggling to find three season hiking boots that don’t give me blisters and ended up empty handed before a backpacking trip. I had no choice but to try these out. I’ve tried them on a few short hikes and they were very comfortable, but I did get a few minor blisters that didn’t cause pain. These Salomon’s just endured 19 miles with 3200 feet in elevation gain with a heavy pack and they were great! That’s asking a lot for these boots, but they came through! I could definitely feel the soles are a little thinner than a traditional hiking boot, but it did not cause any discomfort. The trail was wet and muddy, and as expected, the boots did get wet, but were always dry by morning. I hope they hold up for a while!

Open Air

This hiking shoe has great ventilation... too much for me. I can see my socks through the vent panels so I am concerned about dirt from the trail getting in. It is a good fit and average comfort. I felt like it didn't have enough cushioning in the sole. It was sturdy, but also hard. I can imagine 8 or ten miles with this shoe and my feet would take a beating. I need more protection and more cushion than this shoe has to offer.

W is for WIDE and if you have narrow feet these will NOT work. If B or bigger may work.

W stands for wide. Reviews and title of listing are confusing, but without question this is a wider width. It is labeled wide on the box, there is a sticker on the shoe that says wide and the fit is larger than their B width and has too much volume in the boot. As these run narrow, their regular width is a perfect fit for my skinny heels and narrow feet. The wide is just too large. That being said, their Wide is about the equivalent of others B widths, so if you wear a B or larger I think they would work. Just avoid these is you have narrow feet! Otherwise these are fabulous boots and if I can get them in the regular width, I plan to purchase them. Amazon would be well served to clear up the confusion about whether these are wide or waterproof or both! I suspect since the line runs narrow, most folks who wear a regular B width feel these are not a wide which has led to the reviews saying that these are a regular width.
