As I was considering purchasing this item, the main thing that kept me from purchasing it was how many people had commented in their reviews about the holes being "too small". It was very concerning, but with no one actually providing any actual measurements of what size the holes were, or saying just how wide their toothbrush handles they were trying to put in it were, there was simply no way to tell what they meant at all by "too small". The pictures I had come across on other sites I located that showed the holes certainly didn't look like they were small holes at all, and some of the things some people had said made me suspect they were actually trying to fit electric toothbrush heads with their flared bases into the holes and using it to keep the different heads organized for various members of their family. I finally went ahead and purchased it, and waited for it to arrive to see if I had made a mistake or not. After it arrived and I unpacked it, the holes looked just fine. Just as in the various pictures I had seen on the other websites, the holes looked rather large, and generous. I retrieved one of my toothbrushes and dropping it into one of the holes, I was pleased to see that it fit just fine. Being curious, I went and got a tape measure, and measured the holes myself and found them to be a very generous 5/8" or (a very tight 11/16)... which is not "rather small" at all, but actually on the larger side of things, as one would know if they've shopped and looked as very many of these things. Two other toothbrush holders I have purchased previously (as well as the built in permanent ceramic toothbrush holders in two different bathrooms in the house) were too small for the thicker, round, Oral-B Toothbrushes that I use, while they fit just fine and with room to spare in this. So, for anyone who's wondering, with so many people claiming the holes are small, no.. they aren't small at all. They are easily 5/8" in diameter, and just a bit more and will take manual toothbrushes with larger handles like the ones on the Oral-B manual toothbrushes just fine. It also has a nice little plastic plug that covers a hole in the bottom, just like a salt or pepper shaker has, that makes cleaning it occasionally of the gunk and goo that tends to accumulate over time in these a very quick and easy process too, so you can keep it looking beautiful, and clean well into the future, as well. It is a one piece item, meaning the top is actually attached and is a part of the piece, and does not come off. It's a very nice, elegant, and beautiful piece that matches quite well with my yellow double-vanity with it's brass fixtures that I have in my upstairs master bathroom. Highly recommended... ;-)
