Lights beep and turn off sander
I had zero problem with the sander. It is not used heavily. I clean it, use the 3m mesh it’s designed for and always have it hooked up to a vacuum with proper suction. Now red lights go back and forth every time I release the paddle. It also switches off. So every time I stop sanding for a feel, the sander turns off and beeps. I have to turn it back on after it is done beeping. The only thing I found in the manual and searching online is that it could be getting hot or I could be pushing down too hard. This is not the case. If I run it on slow only applying enough pressure so it will activate, it does the same thing. It seems lots of reviews from 5 stars are turning into bad reviews. I gave it 5 stars and I have went through some high end sanders. This one is frustrating me because there is nothing I can find about what the problem is and how to fix it. Also, on high it is also starting to vibrate extremely hard. Such a costly disappointment.

Failed 2 months after purchase
Sander failed 2 months after purchasing. Amazon customer service was exceptional. The price of the sander had increased since purchase. Customer service gave me a credit for the difference. I purchased a second sander in its replacement. The quality of the 3M sander is questionable because of the failure. Although I will give 3M the benefit of the doubt. They are known for making great products. The design is very impressive and does a great job. Dust collection is excellent with the 3M sandpaper. I've used a 6 inch anti-viberation Bosch sander for years with no issues. The biggest difference is the weight and overall size. The Bosch is very heavy and not as comfortable to use. Although I'm skeptical of the quality of the motor of the 3M sander. The other major difference is the noise level. The 3M sander is very quiet compared to my Bosch. I hope the 3M sander doesn't fail again, I enjoy using it, but for the cost I expect it to last 5-8 years, not 5 months.

Who knew sanding could be enjoyable???
This is insane. Got this after my Rigid ROS and palm sander burned out after many years & wanted to see what all the hype was with expensive sanders. Thought about festool but $700 for a sander is nutty to me especially after watching reviews of this in comparison to other sanders. Got this and the classic $300 Bosch. But I don’t see how something else could be better. I’ve done most of the sanding on 3 or 4 speed out of 8. At that, there’s hardly any vibration. Took a video and you can’t hear the sander over the air draw from a shop vac ???? It’s almost annoying how fast this gets the job done. Like, no point to even set up for sanding. Just hold it and it’s done, when combined with the 3M Cubitron mesh. I’ve got the 120 grit on there and it ate through glue, completely smoothed out mahogany in seconds. Hard maple burl? No big deal. Epoxy? Ain’t no thang :) It’s lightweight, and on low settings, it’s easy to manage single handed, even rounding corners out and detailing with a 6” 3/16” cut. With the shop vac, I had to mod a connector to go from 2.5” to the 1.5” OD that the dust port this has, simply by sanding down the rubber to give just enough space to slip it over. No marks, nothing, even with the more aggressive orbit. Going to try it out on an epoxy surface that I’ll bring it back up to hi gloss (600grit up through 5000). At a cheaper price point that the mirka & festool, what’re you doing reading still, anon? Click buy now and don’t look back.

Great and Terrible
I wrote a glowing review when I first got this (although I don't see it posted), and wanted to update since I've returned it. -Pros It's powerful. Coming from a cheaper Bosch 5" orbital, this thing has tons of power to sand quickly (not just because its 6" which also helps), and produces a better finish than the cheap sanders. Its light and has good ergonomics, altho I prefer the smaller top handle on the Festool, but the 3m is better than anything else (besides the Mirka which is the same). -Cons (and why I returned it) I got a great deal on this sander, amazon prime discount so it was like $380. Killer deal and I was so excited, and would still be except for 1 major issue. This thing gets loud and vibrates when you add a backing pad. Most mesh sandpapers recommend using them, otherwise you will burn out the hook pad and have to pay more to replace it vs the cost of a backer pad. It is as loud and vibrates as much as my cheap bosch sander, which i would have lived with except... When hold it vertically or upside down it becomes almost unusable. It vibrates so hard you can barely hold it and is way louder than a cheap sander. I like to quickly flip the sander over to use for small pieces (IE: rounding the end of a dowel) and after trying it once I knew it had to go back. I was so sad, because I got a great deal and it works great in a lot of ways, but for this much money I need to be able to use it in all the ways I want to use it. Im debating now between the Festool ets 150/5 which is great and has some benefits but more cost, or the Bosch rotex which is cheaper and even more powerful, but louder and heavier. GL hope this helps someone.

Overpriced
This is an extremely overpriced sander that is just ok, not great but ok. Save your money and buy something else

Best sander I've ever used
This thing kicks butt. Cuts sanding time in half easily. Light weight , low profile, quiet, and no vibrating hands after using, very smooth. Dust collection is excellent through my 2 stage dust collector, 4 inch to 3in to adapter duct taped to the sander since I don't have the exact connection. This is using 3m extract disks. Only con is the price. But you really do get what you pay for. I have no regrets for spending the money. I do a lot of cutting boards and this sander hasn't missed a beat. All I can say is, hey if you're old like me and have a couple dollars...go for it. And if you are younger, it may be the last sander that you will ever buy... I've had my share of Dewalt, Bosch, craftsman and the like. 3m puts them to shame....
